Een consult bij de Osteopraktijk bestaat uit een vraaggesprek met een osteopaat, een lichamelijk onderzoek en de behandeling. Het hele consult duurt bij de intake-afspraak circa 50 minuten. De osteopaat vraagt u soms om een formulier met vragen te beantwoorden. De vragen richten zich onder meer op uw klachten en ziektegeschiedenis. Tijdens de eerste afspraak zal de osteopaat deze vragen kort met u doornemen, waarna hij met het lichamelijk onderzoek en vervolgens de behandeling overgaat.

De osteopaat zoekt met zijn handen naar vastzittend bindweefsel in het lichaam, maar beperkt zich daarbij niet alleen tot de plekken waar je klachten hebt. Het kan namelijk heel goed zijn dat de oorzaak van de klacht op een andere plek in je lijf zit, en ‘doorwerkt’ in bijvoorbeeld nekklachten of rugpijn. Omdat de osteopaat ‘breed’ kijkt kan hij een oorzaak vinden, waar eerder nooit naar gekeken is.

De bevindingen van het onderzoek worden met je besproken. Er wordt ook een mogelijke verklaring gegeven voor de relatie tussen het vastzittende weefsel en de klacht.

De behandeling is gericht op het losmaken van dit weefsel. Dat doet de osteopaat met zijn handen. De bewegingen zijn meestal pijnloos, omdat de behandelaar zoekt naar vrije bewegelijkheid (en niet naar pijn).

Dit alles duurt circa 50 minuten. Soms is de aard van de klacht zo dat in overleg in de volgende afspraken ook voor een half consult kan worden gekozen. In een volgend consult wordt ook het lichamelijk onderzoek herhaald, omdat de spanning zich mogelijk in een ander gebied van het lichaam manifesteert.

Het onderzoek gaat vlot, omdat je reeds de belangrijkste gegevens aan ons door hebt gegeven. Dat is mooi, want op deze manier hebben we meer tijd voor de behandeling.
